Legal Situation
Everything about the current legislation, the Cannabis Act (KCanG) and what you need to know legally.
Since April 1, 2024, cannabis has been legal in Germany under certain conditions. The Cannabis Consumption Act (KCanG) regulates what is permitted and what is not — from home growing to possession to distribution through cultivation associations.
For members of a Cannabis Social Club like BlattWerk e.V., it is particularly important to know your rights and obligations. How much can you possess? Where can you consume? What happens during a traffic stop? And which rules apply specifically to cultivation associations?
Our legal articles are based on the current state of the KCanG and the respective state legislation in Lower Saxony. They are regularly updated when the legal situation changes. Important: These articles do not replace legal advice — for specific legal questions, we recommend a lawyer specializing in cannabis law.
The key points at a glance: Adults aged 18 and over may possess up to 25 grams of cannabis in public spaces and up to 50 grams at home. Home growing is permitted with a maximum of three female plants per person. Cannabis Social Clubs may distribute up to 25 grams per day and 50 grams per month to adult members. The THC limit for driving is 3.5 ng/ml in blood serum.
